Road to Annexation Activity

Subject-specific TEKS lesson

(4.3) History. The student understands the causes and effects of the Texas Revolution, the Republic of Texas, and the annexation of Texas to the United States.

The student is expected to:

A. Analyze the causes, major events and effects of the Texas Revolution, including the battles of the Alamo and San Jacinto.

Specifically:

· Texas Revolution
· Battle of Gonzales
· Battle of the Alamo
· Runaway Scrape
· Goliad Massacre
· Battle of San Jacinto

ACTIVITY:

(This activity will involve critical thinking, especially with regard to the third part of the exercise)

Each student will: 1) create a "Road to Annexation" by plotting different points in which the above listed battles occurred; 2) describe their outcomes; and, 3) explain how each one led to the subsequent events listed until Texas secures independence and is annexed by the United States.
